The Examiner reports that EA is willingly refunding preorders for the PC edition of Battlefield 1943, which was at one point to trail the console edition of the military shooter by "a couple of months," before suffering a further delay. The Xbox 360 edition of the game was released a year ago, and while DICE began accepting preorders for the game in October 2009 and it was promised "soon" in March, the game is still MIA. VG247 contacted EA about this and received a reply that does not do much to dissuade anyone who has the opinion that PC BF1943 is vaporware, saying: "All pre-orders can be canceled with refund at anytime and we do not have any further information at this time about a release date for the PC version of Battlefield 1943."

Strike at Karkand Coming to Battlefield 2142

A user on the EA forums discovered Strike at Karkand was running on a Battlefield 2142 test server. The Official BF2142 twitter confirmed that the map will be included in the v1.51 patch.

Yes, Battlefield 2142 v1.51 is releasing with Strike at Karkand. Made by Jason Brice its the same layout as the BF2 classic with 2142 twist.

Activision CEO Bobby Kotick answers "I would have Call of Duty be an online subscription service tomorrow," when asked by Wall Street Journal Online what he would do if he could instantly make one change in his company by snapping his fingers. He goes on to explain: "When you think about what the audience's interests are and how you could really satisfy bigger audiences with more inspired, creative opportunities, I would love to see us have an online Call of Duty world. I think our players would just have so much of a more compelling experience." He answers "hopefully" to their follow-up question of whether this is coming, and goes on to explain that their customers have been "clamoring" for the opportunity to pay a monthly fee for multiplayer support, as demonstrated by how much they play for free: "I think our audiences are clamoring for it. If you look at what they're playing on Xbox Live today, we've had 1.7 billion hours of multiplayer play on Live. I think we could do a lot more to really satisfy the interests of the customers. I think we could create so many things, and make the game even more fun to play. We haven't really had a chance to do that yet, so that would be my snap of the fingers."

A new patch is now available for Call of Duty: World at War, updating Treyarch's World War II first-person shooter to version 1.7. The new version fixes a multiplayer server crash exploit, a voice chat crash on systems with no default recording device, and an issue causing erroneous duplicate qport errors while adding an option for server admins to disable team switching. EA and Crytek announce that they are offering the chance to play Crysis Wars for free next weekend, giving everyone a chance to sample the enhanced Crysis multiplayer play included with Crysis Warhead, Crytek's first-person shooter follow-up. Beginning Monday, those willing to register on MyCrysis can download a Crysis Wars client and get an activation key to allow online play from Friday, October 10th at through Sunday, October 12th.

The Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars Website now offers the promised patch to update Splash Damage's teamplay first-person shooter to version 1.5. There are full and incremental updates available, and there is also a corresponding updated version 1.5 ETQW Software Development Kit. With Insomnia40 currently gearing up to be the big LAN of the year, we have been looking at what tournaments we want to initially announce as certain for the summer event. To that end we can confirm that the following games will have prize tournaments at Insomnia40 this August:

- Counter-Strike: Source
- Team Fortress 2
- Battlefield: Bad Company 2

Once we have confirmed the prize funds we will be contributing to these tournaments, we’ll get them announced right here on the Insomnia40 website.

We are also evaluating the following games as possibilities for the event:

- Call of Duty 4
- Quake Live
- Starcraft 2
- Heroes of Newerth

Steam News has word on a new Left 4 Dead 2 patch from yesterday. The new version updates the hit boxes for a number of infected and addresses a number of bugs.
The list of major changes follow.

Changed rules for ghost placement in Scavenge Mode
Player controlled Special Infected are no longer forced to un-crouch and lock strafe when they crouch attack
Spitter spit that damages players on a moving elevator will now fizzle quickly
Allow the survivor and infected to rotate the camera yaw while being attacked by a Charger or Smoker
Smoker that has dragged a survivor to the end now gets the same cinematic flashlight as the Hunter and Charger
Fixed a crash in physics
Updated the Charger's hit boxes
Updated the Jockey's hit boxes
Updated the Spitter's hit boxes
Fixed player health on being revived after a Charger slam over a high ledge
Fixed versus scores not resetting after a vote to change campaigns
Fixed being able to use defibrillator on dead players who were far above or below you
Fixed pink glow on dead survivors
Fixed being able to hold crouch while incapped to get better weapon accuracy
Fixed players pushing against some props causing them to accumulate downward velocity and then take falling damage when they let go of the forward key
Fixed a case where an incapped survivor inside a rescue vehicle would trigger both the escape sequence and a round restart
Fixed the helping hand from getting stuck when extended

NVIDIA Driver Downloads now offers new version 258.96 WHQL candidate drivers for NVIDIA accelerators, adding GTX 460 support, and performance improvements for several games. There are drivers for Windows 7/Vista 32-bit, Windows 7/Vista 64-bit, Windows XP, and Windows XP 64-bit.

The new GOLD Lite membership is a new rank that sits between Lite and Admin members and boasts some extra benefits over Lite membership, which includes:

Limited admin on the servers: i.e. kick, temp ban, change map. (At Admin's descretion)
Limited Ventrilo Admin: the ability to drag people to other rooms and reserved slot.
Gold Lite members are also listed across this site with their especially earned rank/status.

As always all memberships are subject to SC Terms/Rules

Stormerclan now has a 3rd and 4th Bad Company 2 server! One Hardcore Rush mode and the other Hardcore Conquest mode!
We also now have StormerClan's own Killing Floor and Left 4 Dead 2 servers back!

As you can see above I have integrated a DynamicDrive menu system under our StormerClan banner area. This should make it easier and quicker for members and vistors to find site features.
The menu has been integrated in to both the nuke and standard php site parts.

The site has been tested on the following browsers with no issues: FireFox 3+, Internet Explorer 7+, Safari (latest windows version) and Opera (latest version)

I plan to severely strim down the left-hand side menu system to un-complicate this page.

Please note: to access all items in the menu you must wait for the entire page to load.

Please report any issues you may find or any links you feel I have missed (or any that should be added) to me by email or PM.

Come on guys, we could try this out, could be fun!!!

Epic Games announces that preloads are underway for the Unreal Tournament III Black Free Weekend on Steam that will begin on Thursday. Unreal Tournament III Black is how they are referring to UT3 with the addition of the Titan Bonus pack, and they also point out the multiplayer shooter is further improved since the previous free weekend with the addition of the recently released version 2.1 patch. Full details are on the Steam Website, where they also point to new Phase 3 results in the Make Something Unreal contest.
